THE ISSUE: ANDROID APP FREEDOM IS UNDER THREAT

In August 2025, Google announced a new requirement scheduled to take effect in September 2026:

Every Android app developer must register with Google before their software can be installed on Android devices.

This applies not only to Play Store apps, but also to:

Apps distributed through F-Droid
Open-source applications
Internal business applications
Community and church applications
Hobbyist and personal projects
Apps shared directly between users

✓ Registration of current and future application identifiers
